This is an exciting time in retinal surgery with new therapies now available for the previously untreatable and blinding condition of age related macular degeneration.

Anti VEGF treatments are available to try to stop the growth of the scar tissue seen in wet ARMD, eg., Avastin, Lucentis and Macugen..
The very severe form of the disorder can be treated by retinal translocation surgery (MT360).
Prevention with high dose multivitamin tablets is recommended for certain types of ARMD according to the AREDs study.

Macular hole surgery without the use of posturing postoperatively can be arranged. Many patients find the most traumatic part of the operation is the posturing regime used in the first week this can now be avoided with no effect on success rates.
