Worried you might have uveitis?
If you’ve been told you may have uveitis, or you’re noticing sudden changes in your vision, eye pain, or light sensitivity, you can count on us to help. We offer fast, expert-led assessment and treatment of uveitis at our central London clinic.
What is uveitis?
Uveitis is inflammation inside the eye, most often at the front. Sometimes the uveitis affects the back of the eye including the retina and vitreous. When this happens the retina can be damaged and the vitreous become opaque with proteins and cells. These may require vitrectomy surgery to repair.
What are the symptoms of uveitis?
Uveitis symptoms vary by type but may include:
Sudden blurred or cloudy vision
Eye pain or discomfort
Redness or watering
Sensitivity to light
Floaters or flashes
These symptoms can come on quickly or develop gradually. Even if they seem mild, it’s important to take them seriously, as untreated uveitis can cause long-term damage or vision loss.
What to do now
Uveitis can be an urgent condition. If you’re in pain or noticing sudden changes to your vision, prompt assessment is essential. At our clinic, we offer:

Rapid appointments
Usually within 48 hours of your first call.

Comprehensive assessment
Including slit-lamp examination and OCT imaging

Immediate treatment
Start appropriate care the same day as consultation, when required
Treatment of uveitis
Treatment depends on the type and severity of inflammation. At our clinic, we focus on:
- Steroid eye drops: The first-line treatment for most anterior uveitis cases
- Dilating drops: Sometimes used to ease pain and prevent complications
- Regular OCT monitoring: To assess retinal health and inflammation
- Clear follow-up plan: Including referral if additional systemic treatment is needed
Professor Williamson will guide you through your treatment plan and ensure any necessary next steps are clearly explained.
