New Book Vitreoretinal Surgery by TH Williamson out now. Published by: springer

This is an exciting time in retinal surgery with new therapies now available for the previously untreatable and blinding condition of age related macular degeneration.

  • Anti VEGF treatments are available to try to stop the growth of the scar tissue seen in wet ARMD, eg., Avastin, Lucentis and Macugen..
  • The very severe form of the disorder can be treated by retinal translocation surgery (MT360).
  • Prevention with high dose multivitamin tablets is recommended for certain types of ARMD according to the AREDs study.

Contact my office on +44 (0) 207 034 1036 to be assessed for these treatments.

Macular hole surgery without the use of posturing postoperatively can be arranged. Many patients find the most traumatic part of the operation is the posturing regime used in the first week this can now be avoided with no effect on success rates.

Tom Williamson is now director of a new charity EyeHope through which he hopes to support research, teaching and training in diseases of the eye for more information click here. Connected to this charity is the meeting Trends in Ophthalmology for more information click here. He is director of Consultants Eye Surgeon Partnership South Thames click here.
